El 25 de noviembre de 1885 fallecía el Rey de España Alfonso XII. A los pocos días, el 28, hubiera cumplido 28 años. La situación del país era complicada: su segunda esposa, Doña María Cristina de Austria, embarazada de tres meses, debía asumir la regencia. Su hijo será el futuro Alfonso XIII. La creación de la pieza de Bretón se sitúa en todo este convulso momento histórico.

La presente edición, que sólo está disponible en el mercado en Creatio Artis, es la primera que incluye la versión para dos pianos, además del arreglo para piano a cuatro manos. Se presenta la parte del piano segundo por separado con objeto de facilitar la interpretación. A su vez contiene un análisis crítico de la pieza en castellano e inglés realizada por el compositor y musicólogo Manuel Martínez Burgos.

On the 25^th of November 1885 the King of Spain Alfonso XII died. In a few days, the 28^th, he would have celebrated his 28^th birthday. The country's situation was complicated: his second wife, Doña María Cristina of Austria, three months pregnant, had to assume the regency. His son will be the future Alfonso XIII. The creation of Bretón's piece is situated in this tumultuous historical moment.

The present edition, that is only available in Creatio Artis, is the first one to include the version for two pianos. We arrange separately the part of the second piano with the aim of making easier the performance. As well it contains a critic analysis of the piece in English carried out by the composer and musicologist Manuel Martínez Burgos.
